Interesting topic, thanks for sharing. Taking a year off before starting college might not be a bad idea if (and this is a big IF)the student has a plan. If the student is just going to lay around the house and be lazy, then they might as well get started with college, but if he or she puts a plan together to volunteer or study abroad, then I can definitely see the benefit.

Nathan you are correct about the PSAT. There is no reason a student should not take this exam when offerred. The PSAT allows a student to not only see what types of questions will be on the SAT but it also allows them the oppurtunity to experience the time it takes for the PSAT. Just sitting through this test is very difficult. One must prepare for the mental challenge that will take place during the PSAT.
I think the student that takes the PSAT tends to score better on the SAT just because they have some idea of what to expect on the day of the exam.

Woah this blog is really blogging cool. One major point:

Focus on your grades. Junior year has a huge impact on your GPA. Colleges like to see your grades continue to improve as you take more challenging classes throughout high school. Make sure you allocate enough time to study, and seek out tutoring or a study group if you need some extra help preparing for an exam or with writing a major paper.
